 5 April 2012

For the first time in human history, the world will soon have more older people than children. The human race is ageing and we are unprepared. Unless we change the way we think and act about ageing, we will miss the opportunity to age in good health and to build a society where older people are respected and valued. That is why this year the World Health Organization is dedicating its birthday - on 7 April - World Health Day - to healthy ageing.

Here are some of the things we ask from you starting today.

1.Watch the WHD2012 video http://bit.ly/H1QhRj on challenging the negative stereotypes on ageing; and pass it onto at least 20 people or organizations you know in your professional or private lives. Versions in French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian have also been uploaded.

2.Browse the toolkit for World Health Day event organizers. You can find it here: http://whqlibdoc.who.int/hq/2012/WHO_DCO_WHD_2012.1_eng.pdf . You’ll find information on why we all need to think about ageing now and how, collectively, we can create a world where people can age in good health and be active members of society.

3.Look us up on Facebook and leave a comment http://www.facebook.com/WorldHealthOrganization?v=wall. Paste the link for the World Health Day video on your own Facebook page and encourage your friends to find out more.
